That moment changed how we think about speed. But "fastest in the world" depends entirely on what you're measuring.
What "Fastest" Actually Means
Speed isn't a single number. A cheetah hits 70 mph in three seconds. Think about it: light travels at 186,000 miles per second. A peregrine falcon dives at 240 mph. It's a relationship between distance and time, sure — but the context changes everything. The fastest production car cracks 300 mph. The fastest supercomputer performs quintillions of calculations per second.
Each of those holds a legitimate claim. The question "who is the fastest" only makes sense once you define the category.
The human category
When people ask this question, they usually mean human sprinters. And for the last fifteen years, one name has owned that conversation.
